Ballot INITIATIVE MYTHS vs TRUTH

MYTH: This will allow for an "Unlimited" number of cannabis retailers in Brighton

MYTH: This will allow for an "Unlimited" number of cannabis retailers in Brighton

MYTH: This will allow for an "Unlimited" number of cannabis retailers in Brighton

TRUTH: This is simply flat out, and easily proven FALSE.

There is a firm limit of 2 retailers allowed under the ordinance.

The city of Brighton's ordinance can be found online here. The following can be found on page 5 of the ordinance under the heading "Section. 22‐341(b) ‐ Authorized establishments."

"The following numbers of marihuana

establishments may be authorized to operate in the City, subject to this Ordinance:  Two (2) marihuana retailers"

MYTH: This will put cannabis businesses on Main St. in Downtown Brighton

MYTH: This will allow for an "Unlimited" number of cannabis retailers in Brighton

MYTH: This will allow for an "Unlimited" number of cannabis retailers in Brighton

TRUTH: Another "scare tactic" that is easily proven FALSE

There will be NO cannabis retailers on Main St. in Downtown Brighton.

On page 13 of the city of Brighton's ordinance under the heading: "PART 2 – CHAPTER 98, ZONING." the following can be found:

"Separation Distances. No marihuana establishments are permitted within eight hundred (800) feet of the following: A park or playground,  K‐12 public or private school,  An establishment that offers regular on‐site cultural, educational, artistic, athletic, social, recreational or advisory programs and services primarily to persons 18 years of age and under."

MYTH: Youth use will increase with retailers in Brighton

MYTH: This will allow for an "Unlimited" number of cannabis retailers in Brighton

MYTH: This allows walk-up and drive-up windows, and could allow for 24/7 operation

TRUTH: The statistics refute this "scare tactic."

In July 2019, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a major report analyzing federal data from more than 1.4 million high school students. The researchers found no significant associations between the enactment of adult-use legalization laws and marijuana use among high school students.

MYTH: This allows walk-up and drive-up windows, and could allow for 24/7 operation

MYTH: This allows walk-up and drive-up windows, and could allow for 24/7 operation

MYTH: This allows walk-up and drive-up windows, and could allow for 24/7 operation

TRUTH: Again a complete fabrication to manipulate your vote

On page 15 of the ordinance under the

"Requirements; I iii" subheading:

Drive‐through establishments, walk up windows and mobile establishments are prohibited.

MYTH: Cannabis retailers will sell to minors

MYTH: This allows walk-up and drive-up windows, and could allow for 24/7 operation

MYTH: Cannabis retailers will sell to minors

TRUTH: At state licensed cannabis retailers, like The Greenhouse of Walled Lake, no sales can be made without first verifying a patient or guests age by scanning their state licensed ID. You must be 21+ or older to purchase adult use cannabis.

Currently there are several unlicensed, illegal "black market" delivery services operating in Brighton. These services can be easily found on places like Instagram, Snapchat or weedmaps. These places DO NOT I.D. and will sell untested, black market cannabis to minors.

The presence of state licensed retailers significantly reduces the presence of "black market dealers" in the immediate area.

MYTH: Only "Stoners" use cannabis

MYTH: This allows walk-up and drive-up windows, and could allow for 24/7 operation

MYTH: Cannabis retailers will sell to minors

TRUTH: This stereotype could not be further from the truth.

The average Greenhouse guest is 44 years old, and cannabis users come from all walks of life; Doctors, teachers, engineers, retirees, veterans, and homemakers to name a few.

According to Gallup almost half of all Americans have tried cannabis, and a staggering 68% of Americans support cannabis legalization! Forbes recently published a study from the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology that completely Debunks The 'Lazy Stoner' Stereotype.
